STEVEN HINDES

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER

With an extensive background in media, entertainment and law, Steven Hindes is a General Counsel with two decades-plus experience in top-tier law firms and corporate public entities. Also, he is well travelled in the creative arts, as a musician, producer, filmmaker and scriptwriter.

With a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Technology in Sydney, Hindes began his legal career analysing, structuring, negotiating and closing legal transactions. After attending New York’s New Music Seminar, he took a left turn and established The Big Backyard, which developed, produced and syndicated radio & TV programming for new Australian bands to 1,500+ media outlets in 79 countries to an audience of 60 million.

As CEO for The Big Backyard, Hindes combined his talents by leading legal and business affairs, and he executive produced a major live outdoor concert that aired on national TV. The firm’s clients included multinational and government clients in the travel, leisure, technology, hospitality, media and telecommunications fields.

Post The Big Backyard, Hindes returned to law, as a partner with a mid-city commercial firm in Sydney, specialising in commercial litigation. Since 2007, he has served as Chief Legal Counsel for a financial services company, which is a leading provider of residentially secured first mortgage loan solutions. Here, he oversees relationships with internal business clients, regulators and external legal team, and provides legal advice on financial services, managed investment schemes and superannuation funds, and negotiates general commercial agreements.

On the arts side, Hindes recorded two albums as songwriter, vocalist and guitarist for Gravity Pirates, which fostered worldwide airplay, most notably from the BBC’s acclaimed John Peel on the BBC and VH-1. As a filmmaker, he wrote, produced and directed the film “Love on the Airwaves,” starring Max Cullen (“The Great Gatsby”) as a cab driver who endures a challenging relationship with his GPS. It has screened at more than a dozen film festivals around the world.

As a writer and producer, Hindes has formed a TV production company The Landing Strip that has several TV drama series and formats in development.
